Cap Anamur first got active in Uganda in the period from 1981 to 1992. We further engaged in 1998, then again between 2003 and 2016. In 2017 we returned to run new projects in Uganda.
Situation in the country
Uganda is a haven for many people fleeing the civil war currently raging in South Sudan. On that account, this landlocked East African country is considered exemplary for its dealing with refugees. As such, all refugees are to be given land that they can cultivate to their own benefit, even though it is one of the poorest countries in the world. In this region, medical care is not guaranteed. Only about half the population have access to safe water.
Our goal
Improve medical coverage of both refugees and host communities.
Our activities
In Kiryandongo we provide both medical and logistical support to a hospital. From there we also coordinate medical care in the refugee camps and organize patient referrals.
All activities are run in close cooperation with the national Ministry of Health.
