Along with the training program for nurses, Cap Anamur is supervising the only public afghan dialysis station in Herat.
In the Herat provincial hospital, Cap Anamur supports the dialysis center by providing financial resources and technical supply. This is enabling us to provide vital treatment to people who cannot afford the cost-intensive procedure since 2016.
In 2020, the center has performed a total of 3895 dialyses in Herat on 1245 patients, of whom 56 were children and 424 women. One of our patients is Azizahmad, a 35-year-old teacher who is married and has four kids. If he could work, his wage would be equivalent to 100 $ per month. Per dialysis, the seriously ill man would have to pay 30$. So, it is impossible to pay for the treatment from his own wage. His family already supports him and his wife and children, since his disease prevents him from working.
Cap Anamur is providing the vital dialysis treatment for Azizahmad, along with many other people.
At the beginning of this year, we were able to send two more dialysis machines to Afghanistan, which were donated by the University Clinic Münster. Still, the import is a logistical challenge, because the current security situation is affecting airports in particular.
The two new machines with allow us to perform even more dialyses in the future. However, the need is much higher because currently most patients receive the medical treatment only once a week. But every treatment gives hope to the severely ill.
